You were literally just warned on this in the same thread. Please respect the site rules.

Retailers don't sell windows for $50 or less.

anutter223's Completed Build: "WHY?!"

We have policies against piracy and also against advocating key resellers. The comment you made (that was removed) strongly implied one of those two, hence the deletion and warning.

Whether you think it is valid or not - the EULA spells it out pretty clear. It's also against the rules here to advocate running an unlicensed version of windows. ThoughtA let you know earlier in the comment chain, and this comment stands as your second warning.

Forum Topic "Apple conundrum and competition"

philip staff 10 Builds 4 points 1 month ago

Not to be snarky, but have you read literally hundreds of reviews on the specific areas you addressed? Or a few dozen and then extrapolate from that?

It sounds like you've got your opinion kinda made up here. And in that case, posting a topic about it will only really serve to offer up either different viewpoints for you to dismiss or viewpoints to reassure your stance. Generally speaking, topics that ask "why" or "how" get the best benefit when you go into it with an open mind.

Forum Topic "Apple conundrum and competition"

philip staff 10 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

It kinda seems like you're viewing the world solely through your own lens and preferences (possibly bolstered by a demographic that shares those views). Not everyone is as concerned about the things you mentioned, and that's ok (for them).

Forum Topic "Apple conundrum and competition"

philip staff 10 Builds 6 points 1 month ago

I had a 6+ that bent very slightly. But you couldn't really tell unless you tried. I honestly didn't really care that much. It made for good drama and made Unbox Therapy a lot of money though.

I own a MacBook Pro with a butterfly keyboard and I've experienced the stuck key or two when a crumb falls in the wrong way. I blast a bit of air in there and it's fixed. I think it's happened three times in the couple years I've owned it. It isn't perfect, but it hasn't been as terrible for me as people made it out to be. I've owned plenty other laptops with significantly bigger issues.

I own an iPhone without a headphone port. It hasn't really phased me - I'll either listen via bluetooth headphones or take the adapter out of my bag.

I owned a laptop before my Macbook with upgradeable RAM and SSD. I wouldn't trade for it back. The overall quality of my Macbook was higher. When things break, the customer service experiences I've had with Apple are far better than I've had with other companies.

For average consumers like my parents - they don't really care whether the RAM is upgradeable or not. If the CPU in it isn't the absolute latest and greatest, they won't know. They just want something that's good quality and will last for four years. If people like that make up 90% of the market, and it's more profitable to target them than a 10% group of high-maintenance technologists, then it makes sense Apple develops products for them how they want to. (Not even factoring in that when designing for the 90%, you're commanding component volumes that drive greater pricing discounts.)

If it were easy to create a company targeting the 10% crowd craving high-quality, open-stack, user-upgradeable products with full stack bare-metal hardware design up to full OS/cloud-enabled software, while maintaining good profit margins... then there'd be several companies like that. Until then it's a bit of a unicorn.
