Im building a mini-me!

Let's start from the beginning: 2018 has been a huge learning experience for me. I've been playing consoles my entire childhood, I started with an NES, and im probably ending it with a Playstation 4.... Thats right, I think im done with console gaming entirely. I really started to embrace PC Gaming after playing Overwatch at work on my gaming laptop for pretty much 8 hours a day. Playing with KB/M is extremely challenging to master the controls, but also extremely fun! It feels rewarding to know that I can land a shot without aim assist! I currently own an Asus ROG G751JT-DB73, which has a 970M Nvida Mobile Graphics card, more on that in a minute. It has served me well from 2014 to about 2018. Anyway, I wanted more practice with mouse and keyboard, but still had play Overwatch with my girlfriend on PS4, so I bought a XIM Apex for my PS4. I KNOW I KNOW, im one of those trash players ruining the game for consoles right? Whatever man, I don't think its cheating for many reasons, but I will gladly make a video on my Youtube channel about it soon. Anyway, I was using KB/M on Playstation... on a living room tv... with HELLA latency. I got tired of that after a couple of months and bought Acer Predator XB271HU, 2560 x 1440p 144hz gaming monitor. A bit overkill for my PS4, but I soon discovered a WHOLE NEW LOVE for my gaming laptop!!! OMFG, 144hz at 1440p BLEW MY F!@$KING MIND!!! I had no idea how much of a visual difference 144hz was compared to 60hz, or even the 75hz on my laptop! I was immediately hooked to say the least, I wanted more, much more! For Overwatch to run on my laptop with that dope monitor, I have to set everything to Low and the resolution scaling to 75%, personally I think it looks good (because I dont know better lol). Moving back and forth between 144hz on my laptop to 60hz on my PS4 got old QUICK! I never knew how bad 60fps looked LOL (can't believe im saying this). ANYWAY. I think you all get the point. The transition was real. The need was real. I. Am. READY.

I had a few decisions out the gate that needed to be addressed. So I immediately eliminated the "budget build" idea, sorry "team red" but I wanted ALL the FPS I can get from accessible off the shelf parts (and low maintenance). Im going to go down my list, and explain why I chose each part. My ultimate goal is to run games at 3440 x 1440p @ 120fps+ AND 2560 x 1440p @ 240fps when the (Lenovo) monitor releases. Currently, I do not own either monitors as stated above! I have a Acer Predator XB271HU. For now, High to Ultra settings at 100fps+ is good enough for me, and im sure with this build I can accomplish that and much more! I also dont care for 4k gaming, I care more about FPS.

--Intel - Core i9-9900K 5.0 GHz 8-Core Processor-- I chose this over the 9700k because of the 9900k hyper-threading features. The 9900k performs better in every test thrown at it, no matter if its rendering, sub-4k gaming, or daily tasks. Additionally, I will start streaming. I hear that this CPU is practically a content creator's dream come true. I can stream and game from the same CPU with no problems. Correct me if im wrong lol. I dont plan to build a streaming PC because if all else fails, I can use my gaming laptop to stream, problem solved.

--Thermaltake Core P3 Tempered Glass Red Edition-- I can't tell you how many times I switched my case. It was honestly THE toughest decision here. My other choices were the Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic (w/RAZER if possible), NZXT H700, and the Phanteks evolv x. So, why didnt I go with any of those? Well, the Lian Li is cool, but I don't want to buy 9 RGB fans to make myself happy LOL, that would of been 400$ worth a fans, thats stupid to me. The Phanteks was cool, but I realized that I didnt need to build a dual-system, and that was it's best feature to me. I wasnt crazy about the looks soooooooo, ELIMINATED! The NZXT was on my list for the longest, until I came across the P3.

The P3 offers a crazy good deal for 109$. I watched ALOT of comparison videos of Gamers Nexus videos on youtube. Even compared to an air-cooled system, the P3 offered extremely similar temps! I was blown away because I thought open frame cases were only for water cooling. No! Not really! As long as I keep the ambient temps in the room cool, and open frame case can work fine. All I needed was an AIO and a triple fan GPU and im good! The P3 also gives me incentive to do water cooling later, and wall mounting! Im always fighting for desk space, so that added even more value! I didnt need to buy any additional fans because my AIO comes with 3 RGB Fans (see below), which is more money in my wallet! And lastly, its not big, its not small, its the perfect size for me.

--Thermaltake - Floe Riing RGB 360 TT Premium Edition (AIO) -- After choosing the case, choosing the AIO was simple, sorta. I did contemplate doing a custom loop several times, but it would put me far over budget. I also was thinking about getting the NZXT kraken because it looks better, but ultimately, sticking to one brand is my kind of thing lol. I also didnt want to buy RGB fans for the Kraken, which this Thermaltake AIO already has. More money in my pocket and it still looks great.

--Z390 AORUS MASTER-- Hands down, there is no substitute for this board for the price. I caught this on SALE on Newegg for 259$, which is 10$ more than the lower tier?? Are you kidding me?? This board has the best VRMs on the market. No one here is arguing that. The only problem is the damn software for the lights, ugh!!! Anyway, this board keeps cool because of the awesome backplate, which is crucial to my open frame case. There isn't a motherboard in the 200$ range that offers a better deal, period, even with the bad software.

-- MSI RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB GAMING X TRIO Video Card -- Ok, so here is the thing. Im the kind of guy that likes it when everything matches, but I had to make an exception for this build for multiple reasons. I choose this over the Aorus 2080 Ti Xtreme because:

  1. The overclocking potential on the MSI is far higher compared to Aorus. It's "easier" to get 2000mhz

  2. The MSI has better cooling than the Aorus.

  3. The MSI has better RGB software than the Aorus. It can sync well with Razer Synapse 3.

  4. The Aorus is ALWAYS out of stock (which is the ONLY reason why I didnt buy it!!!!!)

So why the hell was I even considering getting the Aorus??? Well.. again, it would of complemented my motherboard, AND the Aorus looks f!@$king spectacular. Sometimes, performance isnt enough for me lol. But oh well, I love the MSI look too, and it'll perform better. No loss here IMO.

-- G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory -- With the above stated, I wanted everything to match, which means I was highly considering getting the RGB Aorus RAM, but this presented many problems. The Aorus RAM "demo" kit comes with two dummy dimms.... So... im not one for.... "faking performance".... thats just my opinion. I don't believe in throwing M badges on any BMW because you are advertising something that you actually dont have. If I have 16GB of RAM, I would rather it show that I have 16GB of RAM than to PRETEND I have 32GB of ram. So why didnt I get the two dimm 16GB Aorus RGB kit instead for 155$? BECAUSE ITS OUT OF STOCK EVERYWHERE. IDK WHAT IS WRONG WITH GIGABYTE, but this is the most frustrating part of my build! Aorus is bad with keeping stock!!! So oh well, Im already not getting the GPU, so f!@#k getting the RAM too!! I think the G Skill RAM will compliment the MSI look. But the best part is, I caught it on sale for 264$! Four Dimms, 32GB, 3200mhz, RGB, thats a dope deal!!

-- Thermaltake - Toughpower Grand RGB Sync Edition 850 W 80+ Gold -- Pretty Obvious why I picked this one, its for the RGB, But I choose Gold because its the "sweet spot" for efficient performance per dollar. Fight me.

The build is not finished yet, as soon as it is. I will share plenty of pictures when it's done!
