Build Guide

Magnificent AMD Gaming Build

by ThoughtA

Description

CPU

The Ryzen 7 2700X is an octa-core processor that utilizes AMD SMT technology for a total of sixteen threads. This CPU is the top model of the new, 2nd-generation Ryzen processors.

Cooler

To take fuller advantage of the overclockability, we are including the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240R RGB 240mm liquid cooler.

Motherboard

We're using a parametric filter for X470 ATX motherboards. Our compatibility and pricing engines will automatically select the best-priced motherboard that is compatible with the rest of the build.

Memory

For memory, we're filtering for the best-priced 2x8GB kit of DDR4 RAM with a heatsink. We've limited it to DDR4-2800 and faster speeds, as Ryzen CPUs scale well with higher frequency memory.

Storage

We're also using a parametric filter that will actively select the best-priced SSD of at least 1TB capacity. Additionally, we're including a 3TB mechanical hard drive in a parametric filter for things like storing media and extra games. Everyone's storage needs differs, so feel free to change the capacity to your heart's desire.

GPU

Our GPU is Nvidia's new GeForce RTX 2080. This is currently one of the fastest single GPU video cards in the market - you may want to look into a 120-144Hz and/or 2560x1440 resolution monitor for this bad boy. The parametric filter is set for the best-priced RTX 2080 available, but feel free to click the "From parametric filter" link to browse our listing of RTX 2080. For those interested in VR, the RTX 2080 will have no problem playing any and and all applications currently on the market. In addition, the new RTX cards feature special ray tracing cores that will hopefully see use in future games.

Case

The selected case is Fractal Design Define R6 Blackout TG. The R6 includes sound-dampening foam, 2x USB 3.0 ports, and a plethora of hard drive bays.es. In addition, there are 6x 3.5" and 2x 2.5" bays for any extensive hard drive needs you may have.

It also comes with 2x 140mm fans - 140mm fans tend to generate less noise for the same amount of air movement as 120mm since they don't need to spin as fast. If you are okay with some more noise but want more cooling, the case's ModuVent system allows you to remove parts of the case's exterior to mount more fans.

Cases tend to be highly personal choices, so make sure you browse our listed cases to see what suits you.

PSU

Powering the build is a sparse selection of some of the most well-reviewed PSUs available - all without breaking the bank. All of them are certified 80+ Gold and fully-modular.

First lol

Id get a modular psu

RockingTalent 1 point 22 days ago

Semi Modular is Good enough. Only the power cables are pre attached in it which you require so not a big issue at all

johnpost 1 point 2 days ago

really depends if you are planning on getting custom cables

I"m no expert but passing on thoughts: Is it worth getting a cooler like that for a ryzen that doesn't overclock that much? I've been obsessed looking at CPU's for my gaming build, and compared to the 2700x, I'd probably prefer the 8600k since it can overclock quite well and better for gaming. Love to hear your thougths though.

For pure gaming purposes, the 8600K is definitely better. However, if you want to stream or video edit, or any kind of intensive workloads, then this is better by a lot. It'a worth getting that cooler in my opinion as while it doesn't overclock nearly as much as Intel CPUs it will still get a sizable performance increase, it'll look better, and it'll run cooler and quieter.

Go for 8core processor from right now. Get i7 9700k /i9 9900k if u want intel cpu. Ryzen 7 2700/2700x for better value. (For 8core processor)
