Off-Topic Rules

This is a reminder that our Off Topic forum does have rules. Things are relaxed in that you can post non-PC hardware related topics here, but that comes with some additional constraints:

  • Topics need to have substance and purpose. (Please do not post "stream of consciousness" topics. Please do not post "title only" topics.)
  • Do not tear down other people, whether on this site or elsewhere.
  • If you choose this forum to discuss relationships, dating, etc, then treat people under discussion with respect. Don't objectify other people. And keep in mind our NSFW policy still applies.

That's useful and hopefully people wont spam the site with one liners or "i'm bored" type topics

I think you should add a rule about posting things in OT that you know belong in other topics (I've seen it happen a few times with GPU news).

Here's an example.

... So... You unpinned the other two topics on this and posted this again? (Well, sort of again...)

Boy, OT seems to really be in a mess...

Anyway, good to see that you're at least acknowledging the issues. Way too many forums just hide in the background deleting stuff but never saying anything.

I consolidated two rules topics, yeah. And added an extra line. What I saw that led me to this post was several topics in the last few days about relationships and dating advice. I'm totally fine with that. But some of those topics were referring to the other people like they were objects and not people. That's not what I want this place to be about.

But some of those topics were referring to the other people like they were objects and not people

We could get into a nice philosophical debate on if they are people and not just constructs made to make me think there are other people... :P But I know what you mean. And I'd guess you'd be ok with such a discussion (in another topic) as long as it was civil.

Ehh, have something else to say, but don't like to "toot my own horn"... Plus, sure you have more important stuff to deal with.

I think you know this already, but just so it's clear to others: What I mean is don't treat other people like sex objects.

Please do not post "stream of consciousness" topics.

Is that like, "what do you think of this" kind of topics?

No, more like:

  • I'm craving burger king
  • Potatoes
  • I'm in class and I'm really bored. NM.

Please do not post "stream of consciousness" topics.

Not exactly sure what this means, but I do definitely agree with these points. Hopefully people listen and understand the guidelines instead of walking that gray line like some people used to.

Really nice to see that OT forum is getting some of it's sanity back ;)

Why isn't this pinned anymore?

I think that the gist of this post and some other points were comsolidated into another topic

The off topic rules are visible when you create a new topic.

I know that, but why isn't this topic at the top with the other OT rules topic and your discord announcement...

Because when I added it to the new topic header it became redundant.

Oh, I see

It's now text that appears when you go to enter a new topic in OT.

Same here. I was looking for this topic and realised it wasn't there. :-)
