I have always been interested in putting together a build. Once I saw my laptop starting to go down hill I knew it was time. I tried to do decent research and built a system that would be able to handle Adobe products as well as drafting programs. I intended to leave some room for upgrades in the future such as ram and a larger ssd. Unfortunately I have made the rookie mistake of underestimating the psu and need to upgrade that before I do any overclocking or further upgrades.

I would look to hear some feedback or constructive advice on making this a better system, Thanks!

Part Reviews

I was looking at buying the i3-8100 when I saw a huge sale and this CPU and had to pick it up. It runs great at 4GHz. Although, if you are looking to buy this at MSRP I would recommend buying a i5 for a little more $$ and you'll get 6 cores

CPU Cooler

I love this cooler! Not impossible to set up, but a little tricky for a first time builder. I was between this and the 212 EVO. But once I saw how much nicer this cooler looked aesthetically I went with it.

Pretty good board. I like the gray and black color scheme. I'm not too crazy about the Mystic Light app. It is advertised to be much better than it actually is.

Great ram. I have not had any problems, I will eventually rebuy so I can run dual channel.

Makes Windows 10 run like butter. Very snappy and fast boot times. Great card and matched my black and gray scheme.

Video Card

Honestly, I was a little let down by this card. It runs pretty good. But gets hot very quickly due to the poor heatsink.

Great case! It is a very popular case, and now I know why. Very easy to work with and it has plenty of storage, tie downs, and nice clips to cable manage. I love the full tempered glass and the matte finish.

Power Supply

Great PSU for what it is. It works and there is not ugly ketchup and mustard cables.

Obligatory RGB for a first build. adds +50 fps

These cables look very clean compared to regular psu cables. Adds that extra hint of detail that makes the build look professional

Great deal on that i3. Little beast of a chip.

How do you like the i3? Its crazy seeing an i3 with 4 cores. Ive been debating on messing around with one considering its performance and price point.

It performs nearly identical to an I5-7600K from the previous generation. Price to performance for gaming is very compelling.

Dam i might have to get one to play around with. Have you attempted to do any OC'ing to it?

poINtblank213 1 point 10 months ago

I don't have one. I'm not the submitter. I got that information from userbenchmarks. Testing shows it performs nearly identical in every metric. I would venture that they essentially are 7600k's that have been modified for the coffee lake chipset.

I am really liking it. I did not have last gens i5 but it has been said that they perform similarly. 8th gen i3s stepped it up

I love the all black look with no RGB. This is a clean build!

Everything looks good. With gpu prices were they are a 1060 3gb is a good pick for a budget build and it pairs great with your i3. Also, I really like your cable mod choices.

Magicman1231 submitter 2 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

Thank you! Yeah the 1060 3gb was a shoe in for this build. I wish gpu prices would be lower though, I would have probably went with the 1060 6gb.

Nice build +1 what’s the monitor? I have a similar one but that one seems much wider

Magicman1231 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Thanks! Its the LG 29UM68-P 29" 21:9 UltraWide. I also added a VIVO desk mount stand which makes the monitor so much better.

TurboSwim 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

how does the 1060 run? Just bought the same one my self.

I will be brutally honest. The card runs to the thermal power limit on pretty much any game I play. The internal cooling is horrendous and EVGA definitely cheaped out the heatsinks. If it were not for the sale that I bought this card on, I would stay as far away from this model as I can.
