Description

This is my daily use system, as it currently sits, that I do everything on - gaming, watching of videos (often of others gaming :P), some 3D rendering (hobby/casual interest level).

I started out with a I7-5930k but after years of overclocking it, it finally gave up the ghost (ran it @4.4GHz daily for about 3 years), when that died I got a used I7-6950X off ebay for a decent price at the time, and have been happily running that at 4.2GHz.

I'm considering it time to upgrade the video cards, probably sometime in 20/21 (well, upon upgrade it will be only to a single card as SLI is pretty much dead now). Not sure what it'll be, but I'm leaning towards nVidia so when the next gen cards come out I'll reassess if AMD has anything to compete at the high-end level (xx80 TI level, not going full stupid with Titan class anymore).

I tend to do little things here an there, such as when initially putting the system together, there was no RGB lighting but several months later I got a strip for another project and used the left over as the case had a controller for RGB included (and why not). I used soft tubing for a couple years as well, only switching to hard tubing in '18. Also, recently I had a WD Blue 500GB 2.5" SSD drive that I took out to put in the adapter for 2 sata based m.2 drives - WD Blue 2TB drives in Raid0 (removed it as I didn't have room to have all the drives at the same time).

It was only recently after updating this list did I realize just how much the cost of this system kind of got away from me. No regrets though, I'd do it over again (and probably will).

Do you have issues with the updated Intel microcode screwing with the multiplier for overclocks?

Not anymore, I had issues before I updated to the latest BIOS (4101 for the sabertooth), now it's holding fine (used to have to use XTU from intel to get the overclock after booting into windows if I was about to do something that needed the extra effort).

Lucky. But I know not all X99 boards have had consistent BIOS updates for microcode.
