Description

Built this so I could go between my office and my house without worrying about any performance differences (X99 @ home, X370 @ work).

June 2017 Updates:
- Corsair Lighting Node PRO
- Corsair H115i
- EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3
- 10 TB HDD

Part Reviews

CPU

8c/16t beast of a CPU. Basically an unbinned 1800x, truly the silicon lottery when you get this.

CPU Cooler

Keeps the CPU nice and cool, even when overclocked. The stock AM4 cooler was sufficient but I idle closer to ambient now and I can overclock slightly higher.

Thermal Compound

If it's available, buy the 11g version. You can never have enough Kryonaut.

Motherboard

Pros:
- Stable board and good RAM support.
- Consistent BIOS updates.
- Not too flashy.
Cons:
- No BCLK/Reference clock option.
- Limited I/O ports on motherboard vs higher-priced option.
- Can't POST w/ high RAM speeds when populating 4 DIMMs.

Memory

Single rank, binned RAM. With pretty colors.

Storage

Fast boot medium. I store anything I need to access instantly here and my large archives of data on my HDD.

Storage

T H I C C platter density. Helium sealed.

Video Card

Great card, runs super cool and quiet too.

Case

A must-have case for that wow factor.

Power Supply

Future-proofing until we get portable nuclear reactors for over 100% power efficiency.

Monitor

Super smooth and decent colors. Great resolution.

Monitor

Good monitor with good colors.
Wish it had a faster refresh rate but you get what you pay for.

Mouse

A mouse doesn't make the player, but it certainly helps A LOT.
Love the grip/aesthetics/features.

Headphones

Amazing headset for the sale price it usually goes for ($35-40).

Speakers

I had to set my equalizer to turn the bass down so I could hear people speak in movies.

We all know why this is a "work" PC...

Power bills are quite annoying, amirite?

Crossfire R9 390s in the office?! Good stuff.

Hi :)

Hitachi - Ultrastar He10 10TB 3.5" 7200RPM: how does it perform? I am interested on buying it for storing alot of games, play them and save them there as well. Is it good for gaming?

Pazaz submitter 6 Builds 2 points 17 months ago

I've got my entire steam library (2.92 TiB) stored on it.
I get sequential read speeds of 215 MB/s and sequential write speeds of 200 MB/s so games with small, large files load decently but it's still a HDD - games with many files will take some time. I still really recommend it for the size alone though.
It doesn't take long to load my games from the HDD so I can't complain about anything

KarmAngel 1 point 17 months ago

Thanks ^_^ I know, SSDs are really fast, but they are too expensive! So the option was HDD with that much capacity. With that read & write speads, gaming won't be no problem. If it's decently for the task, i'm fine with it. I'm patient to wait some time, as long as it doesn't take a year XD

+1 for the build, congrats :)

do you think its better to have the radiator on the side instead of the bottom of this case?

MattWeiler 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

If you've done the recent BIOS updates, have you been able to run high-speed RAM (3200) when populating all 4 slots?

Pazaz submitter 6 Builds 2 points 9 months ago

I haven't updated in a couple months but it's running 2933 on with all slots populated. I recall having to play around with my voltages and a few other memory-specific settings to get it to POST, but maybe it's better on the latest BIOS.

MattWeiler 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Thanks for the update. That's great news that you were able to get it so high :)
