Description

This is my very first build after owning a HP Omen while trying to decide whether or not I wanted to ascend to the PCMR. I meant to edit my build and ended up deleting it on accident. Since then, I have upgraded my GPU from a 1080 SC to a 2080 XC2 Ultra. This case is great for cable management. I'm hoping to learn how to bend tubing so I can do a custom water loop, it's what this case deserves. I know everyone hates RGB but I like it because it really stands out and personalizes the rig. I have an affinity for Retrowave/Outrun/cyberpunk themes so that's where my color scheme comes from. This thing handles any game like a boss. I only run into SOME issues trying to stream at high quality while playing some games. I am still learning so it might just be my lack of experience with the software. It handles pretty much anything I throw at it if its one at a time though. Video editing is a breeze. With my Omen I had a lot of stuttering while trying to edit some videos but this thing handles everything with ease.

Inb4 someone says something about my middle bottom fan not facing the same direction lol I know I totally looked over it and have honestly been too lazy to change it lol will probably do it when I clean it.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Okay so let's start with the cons. CAM. The CAM software is awful and doesn't work at times. That aside, it's a GREAT AIO. the 280mm outperforms the 360. It's stylish and does the job well.

Thermal Compound

Amazing thermal paste. Dropped my temps by 6c. It's a tad more expensive but it pays for itself.

Video Card

EVGA makes great cards. Kind of ugly...but the performance is amazing. I actually have the XC2 ultra but I cannot find it on here. It has ICX2 technology, the software is easy to use, and it is COOL. Not only is it cool but the fans are also very quiet even at high speeds.

Case

This case is a godsend. It's quite hefty but it needs to be. It's made for water cooling/custom loops in mind. It's showy and generous with areas for cable management. Has an addition spot for another PSU if your system ever calls for it, however, in the meantime that space is occupied by storage. Despite not having a front intake, it is quite cool with an AIO and fans set up.

Monitor

This monitor was worth every penny. A lot of reviews have stated that they have bad IPS bleed with this monitor. I have been fortunate to not have that issue. Its an IPS panel and they're notorious for that, however I don't notice any issues. It overclocks to 165mhz and does have speakers. The speakers don't get very loud but then again you're most likely going to have a headset on anyway.

Mouse

This is the newest version of my favorite mouse :) It's lighter and the design is revamped. supports 18,000 dpi.

Headphones

The headset itself is amazing, I have no issues locating enemies with how awesome the sound is. It's very comfortable to wear for an extended period of time. The mic is doodoo.

Hi,

How is the cpu cooler performance/stability so far? is it recommended compared to a Noctua ?

Thanks,

Your build looks amazing. Just a quick question. Is that a custom backplate on the video card? If so where did you buy it from? Thanks.

Thank you! And yes it is. It was made by V1tech. I would also recommend JmMods. He made a backplate for my 1080 and it was fabulous.

Thanks so much for this site. I didn't know that they had this much customization. Unfortunately I'll have to wait on upgrades because I'm coming up on about 3k spent already and I'm sure my wife is going to kill me.

Haha I know that feel man. If you aren’t already subbed to the r/buildapcsales you need to be. I found a lot of stuff with great sales there and it significantly lowered the price.

I've been looking at this case for a long time now, so I'm wondering how it performs. Such a nice build, I hope it isn't noisy and uh.. hopefully it doesn't get dusty either.

I gotta ask, though.. What's below the GPU? (Image 4)

  • 2 points

I believe that's a gpu support bracket

Do yourself a favor and wait for the new version of this case to release. This particular case doesn’t have support for a rear 120mm fan. If that doesn’t bother you, then go ahead and get this version. I wouldn’t say it’s loud...but I have HD fans that can get loud and I believe that contributes to the noise. Considering this case was made for water cooling in mind, I would assume they didnt take much care for noise dampening. So in my experience it’s not terribly loud but it also depends on your hardware.

As for dust, it doesn’t get too bad. I haven’t had to clean it yet and by visual inspection it looks solid. The item that’s below that’s GPU is a bracket. That GPU sag can get pretty gnarly and that card is extremely beefy.

Same, oldies, but goldies 80s/90s seriously can't peel my addiction of it lol. Heck, even replaced my old 8 years of house (future, progressive etc.) music habbit for this new bad boy in town, it's just so fulfilling and euphoric!

Nice build man how was cable managing the rgb cables thinking of getting them.

  • 1 point

Thank you! The rgb cables are extensions so it can leave a lot of extra to be desired. You really have to mold them because they’re quite stiff! There’s a bracket and cable combs that keep the clear plastic over the white cables and that can be a pain in the butt. Overall if you have adequate space in the back of the case you shouldn’t have a problem with them.

+1 best case imo

I agree! Kind of miffed that they are releasing a new version with support for a rear 120mm fan and some other changes. Overall I don’t regret the purchase at all. Cable management is a hell of a lot easier, especially since I used so much rgb.

Which one is that? Was it at CES? Sorry for all the questions but I don't recall one having 120mm rear fan support

  • 1 point

No worries, man. Yeah it was at CES. It’s the WGX ROG edition of the case. There’s also a new Razer edition as well.

This build is absolutely beautiful. Love the Naruto support bracket and those awesome rgb cables. whole build has a dope vibe to it. Calling a feature.

Thank you so much! I actually had a naruto going backplate originally and was going a totally different direction. I kept the bracket until I bought a different one that fit my build better. I’m so glad you knew where it was from!

I would think that a custom Naruto backplate with RGB would be siiick on this build. Maybe like a big leaf village symbol or the sage of six paths sign. Anyway your build is beautiful, i hope to make mine as cool as yours. I plan on making it destiny themed with some naruto references mixed in.

Thanks so much for the love man. The cover I have had the rinnegan sharingan and “KEKKEI GENKAI” on it. It’s got a purple face but the clear parts are rgb. Does your motherboard have a 5V addressable header? (Or do you plan to get one that does?)

Gorgeous build! +1 I really like the retrowave/cyberpunk theme of your build, even thought I have my build's lighting set to blue LOL.

Can't wait to see your build when you do that custom water loop!

Thank you! Yeah I’m really excited to learn how to do it. I’m wondering if I should start with soft tubing or really put the effort in and learn how to bend for hard tubes.

Where can I get a custom plate like that? What I want is one that says ASUS, but in the Outrun style font.

  • 1 point

Youd have to find the font you want but you can get plates like this made at Jmmods. He does great work and he's cheaper than others but hes also one guy so his turn around time might be a little longer than others. This specific one in my build was made by V1tech. You get to design your own on the site but you can also email them and tell them your ideas.

Are the three bottom fans and the three fans on the side intake? Also, are the two fans on top exhaust?

I’m planning on building a PC in the near future with the same case but I’m not sure of exactly how many fans I should use and where to place them.

  • 1 point

the two top are exhaust and bottom intake and side are exhaust. I did the sides exhaust because I like how it looks with these particular fans, however HardwareCanucks did a series of variations and said that the side perform better as intake.
