Description

So like many other builds here, that was my first build ever. As a student (16 yo) money is kind of a contraint. However I managed to get a decent summer job and alot of hours, enough to put together this wonderful build. I previously gamed on a ROG gaming laptop, which for its time (2014) was a beast, but is not powerful enough for modern AAA titles. I built this pc mainly for gaming, and photo editing. Photography is my passion, which is why my friend came over and took pics of me building this rig. Took a little over 4 months to get all the parts, mainly because I was waiting for sales and for used parts to be put up online. I really don't mind getting used parts, they work the same as brand new and you save alot of money by going that route.

I went with a mix of new and used parts. I bought the cooler, ram and gpu used. They all work 100% fine, and no worries there. I shaved off a good hundred $ off this build just by going this route. Really satisfied that I did that, would not hesitate to do that again. I went with this gpu because I currently only have a 1080p 75hz TN monitor. When the next gen nvidia gpus will come out, I will buy one, and get a brand new 1440p 144hz ips gsync panel. It will be alot prettier and will be super handy when doing photo or video editing. So I will be re-selling the gpu once nvidia RTX becomes available.

As for the build itself, I wanted to go with a classic red and black build, I know it might be a bit old and repetitive, but when done right it can look bad ***. Anyways, here are the pics. Enjoy!

Part Reviews

CPU

Solid cpu, 6c/6t is the best thing for gaming right now, don't need anything higher than that.

CPU Cooler

Beefy cooler. Keeps the cpu really cool. Fan is dead silent, really cool stuff. Bought this cooler used, totally overkill for a i5 8400 but it looks damn sexy in my case.

Motherboard

Great motherboard for the price, has plenty of cool features, I really like the click BIOS. Also fits really good in a red and black build.

Memory

I mean ram is ram. Does what its supposed to do. Got these for a steal. Overclocked to 2400 on 16-16-16-(don't remember that number oops lol). Sleek design, and low profile enough to fit a big-*** cooler.

Storage

Crazy fast ssd, REALLY good price!! Speeds are much more better than a regular ssd, for not alot more. If you can catch this one on sale it is such a steal.

Storage

Does it's job, silent and cool.

Video Card

Bought this card used. No regrets at all. Fans are extremely loud tho. Other than that runs about every game at high/ultra 1080p with no problem at all.

Case

Dope case, would definetly get this one instead of the s340 elite. It looks much cleaner in my opinion. Building in this case was alot of fun, especially with the cable channels at the back of the case, it is really easy to do some clean cable management back there.

Power Supply

Went way overkill on this psu. Figured it might be useful if gpus in the future use more power which is a really stupid idea but whatever I could afford it so why not. Gorgeous psu and packaging also.

Case Fan

Super silent fans, set these two fans as intake, they do their job while remaining fairly quiet under load.

Custom

Really nice set of cable. Ballin on a budget. You don't need to spend hundreds on full sets when you can have these. Really worth the price, since they add more style especially when you have a windowed case.

Nice build, nice pictures!

What kind of plant is that resting on your case?

  • 2 points

hey, thanks!! The plant is a fake plant bought from Ikea for a couple bucks. It is one of many from their FEJKA series. Cheers

Heck of a machine for that price! Those Dark Rocks make any build. I went rgb Deepcool mainly because my case was too small for any of the Be Quiets!. Is that the same Red Dragon with a line of keyboards & gaming mice?

Hell yeah! The DR3 is in fact really big and tall, I was fortunate enough that it fits in my case. And for the Red Dragon question, I believe it is, but im not sure I understand your question. Thanks!

Pretty sure they are asking if the red dragon GPU is in any way connected to the red dragon line of budget peripherals, which they are not.

oh, thanks for the clarification, did not really understand his question lol.

Great looking build my friend. If your card is running hot you should try taking the cooler off and re pasting it. My card was running a bit high in my opinion (980ti@74~) i redid the thermal paste and saw a 10~deg Celsius drop. The 4 silver bolts are to undo the heat sink. Many videos to watch. Great job on cable management!

How much FPS do you get on epic settings in games such as fortnight, rainbow six siege, and over watch.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I don't play RB6 or Overwatch, but on Fortnite, on epic settings I would get around 100-120 fps, but I always play on the lowest settings so I wouldn't really know. Cheers

I was going use this case in a new pc build but I didn’t really know what case fans to use (Static pressure or high airflow) would you recommend the fans you have in your build?

  • 1 point

Hey! This case is pretty dope for the price you pay. For the price of the two 140mm fans in my build, I would recommend going with Silent Wings 3 instead of the fractals. I went with Fractal because it was the only thing they had in store and I wanted to to my build right now, so I purchased these. Since then I replaced the stock fans with some silent wings 3s, and my system is near silent with some tweaks to the fan curves.

What would you want to upgrade exactly?

Gpu

well yeah, you just need to make sure that the card fits the case. The max gpu clearance for this case is up to 381mm.

Really cool build! I'm looking to do my first build and I was wondering if you thin i could fit a 212 Evo cooler in this case? is it too big? Thanks!

  • 1 point

Thanks! Yes, for sure you can fit a 212 evo. It is a very small cooler compared to my beefy DR3. You will have no problem with clearance.

Did your case come with fans?

  • 1 point

Yes, two 120mm for exhaust. However I replaced these fans with SikentWings 3 and added two 140mm fans in the front of the case for intake.

Great build. Very clean. And I agree about the H500/S340 Elite thing... Not only does it look cleaner but the airflow is much better too. But I do think the colouring of the white version looks better on s340 elite, as the motherboard tray is white.

Thanks! Yes, I like the look of the s340 elite in white, however I didn't grab it since it is now an older case than the h500. Cheers

Airflow is decent. As long as you add intake fans. Mine are running at around 30% when idle and they ramp up when gaming, my temps are okay. My gpu is not the best but im planing to change it soon so don't compare your results to mine, but cpu wise it gets around 50 degrees, which is respectable. If you want really good temps well just don't get this case, get something like a Meshify c.

I'm attempting a first build too with some high end parts. With 2 added fans do 3 of them face in and one out? If so, is the rear fan a good out location?

  • 1 point

well, on this case, the two fans in front serve as intake, and the one on the top and the one at the back are for outake. I would not recommend putting the one on top as intake because heat naturally goes up, so you would be like pushing cold air when hot air is flowing upwards so it kinda defeats the purpose of putting an intake on top.

sweet! If you go with this case you definitely want two intake fans for better airflow. Otherwise it's a great little case.
