Description

This was mostly a migration build, see the original build here

I migrated because i got tired of looking at the spec 01. I wanted a higher quality case that had more room for cable management and a PSU shroud. I ended up with the Phanteks p400 (which i got on sale from newegg for $50!) and i love it. My new case has everything i wanted and more

I dont have anything new to write about the build, so here is the desc from my old one. Keep in mind that all the components were purchased in december of 2015. Skylake was still new and ALWAYS out of stock, and the GTX 1070 and rx 480 didnt exist yet.

the only reason i got the i7 5775c is because my cousin has a friend who works at intel and he was able to get it for me for $200 (which was awesome), if that didn't happen i would have payed full price for a i5 4690k

all my selections where made based off the reviews and price, and i went with this specific mobo because of the price and the crossfire/sli if i ever feel like upgrading my psu and getting 2 video cards

the perk with the i7 5775c is that it doesn't come with intel hd graphics, it has a better version called intel iris pro. it is capable of running planetside 2 on medium/high setting and textures on ultra (of course, some things that everyone turns off are off) i was very suprised at the FPS actually being pretty high. This really came in handy during the 3 months i didnt have a video card.

The video card is a beast. Skyrim maxed out with 2k textures mod always stays at 60 fps (which it seems to be locked to) Planetside 2 maxed out will never go below 55 fps even in huge battles. The witcher 3 with a custom graphic setting runs very smooth @ 60-75 FPS. Fans running at 100 percent are pretty loud, but not as loud as the stand up fan i have next to me so that doesn't bother me. the sweet spot is 40%.

OCed my CPU to a stable 4.2 ghz, this chip is a great overclocker. I have heard of someone booting windows while their 5775c was OCed to 5ghz on air!

Thanks for looking at my build! feel free to comment

Inspiration behind the name?

I have had a painting of a three headed dragon called orochi in my room for years, thats how i got the name

Cool. Was wondering as japanese folklore tells of orochi as being an eight-headed serpent that punishes some storm god (whose name i can't remember at all) when he is expelled from heaven for betraying someone (i think.) He punishes him by forcing him to give orochi one of his eight daughters every year for seven years, and sacrificing his eighth. Learned that in a mythology elective i threw in first semester last year.

I just bought this case and have a http://pcpartpicker.com/product/TDx9TW/asus-video-card-strixr9390dc3oc8gd5gaming 390 Strix with backplate to go in it. I see that your does not look like its sagging. Did you do anything to help that or is the case solid enough to hold it in there tight??

Sweet build BTW :)

The case is very strong but i think my power supplies very stiff pci cables also give it some support.

Did you need to update the bios to get the 5775c to work on that motherboard?

  • 1 point

Either i didn't need one or the bios updated by itself without my knowledge of it doing so
