Description

This is my first micro atx build. I wanted a new gaming machine and I wanted smaller than my previous machine. It is quiet at idle and the case has good air flow despite its small size. The next item on my list is a 27 inch 1440p monitor with g-sync.

Case: Small and easy to work in. Great airflow. Tried top fan as exhuast but got cooler temps as intake. CPU Cooler: Giant and overkill but quiet. Had to rotate 90 degrees to avoid heat-sink from hitting graphics card. CPU: Seems good for most games but regretting not getting an i7 for hyper threading. Storage: I reused the hdd and both sata ssds from a previous build. The Samsung 950 pro is crazy fast and can boot from off to desktop in 5.5 seconds. Graphics: EVGA 1080 runs every game i throw at on ultra settings at 1080p. Looking to pair a nice 1440p monitor with this card soon. PSU: Love eco mode which keeps the fan off on light loads.

What is your fan setup , in terms of intake/exhaust?

The case came with (1) 180mm fan on the top which i had intended to use as an exhaust however i had better temps using it as an intake. I have (1) 120mm noctua exhaust on the back. The side of the case allows for (3) fans. I have (2) 90mm noctua fans as intake to feed the graphics card and (1) 120mm gentle typhoon as intake. The opposite side of the case has an option for a 80mm fan but i left it empty as 80mm fans tend to be loud and i dont think its needed.

Not sure, but if he doesn't wish to overclock that's not really a big deal, is it?

no. but if you dont want to overclock maybe buy the 6600.

GTAV is the only game that i'v noticed any bottlenecking from the cpu so far. I should be able to limit that by turning down the population density setting. The 6500 should hold me over for now but i will keep an eye out for an i-7 around the time Kaby Lake is released unless it becomes more of an issue with other games. Thanks for the input.
