Why'd you go for the i9-10940X instead of the r9 3950X?
I myself plan to go that route because Intel is better for audio production.
About the only thing these chips are still good at lol.
Threadripper 3000 latency was pushing it for acceptable latency for me, I'm personally looking at the 12 core model since more cores might mean more mesh travel time.
Only reason I'm not looking at the 10 core is I need to have enough cores for VMs.
My biggest fear using the 3900X was audio buffer issues when recording. I ended up going with the 3900X and it worked fine for me at 64 buffer size 96khz. I don't even turn off my VMs when recording.
I have a theory that the USB port on the back of the motherboards that does BIOS flashback is directly connected to the chipset instead of an internal USB hub. I use that port for my audio interface.
It's going to depend a lot on the specific VIs you use. The Kontakt instruments I use regularly and the libraries I use with EW Play did not like the 3900X. Buffer size I had to use was no fun with guitar amp sims either, too much latency.
I returned a 3900X. The multi-die design makes them choke at low buffers.
I might go for 12 instead of 14. Really depends on pricing and availability. Or see if I can snag a used 7980XE for a decent price lol. Delid that sucker.
Maybe he wants to run a hackintosh system like me lol
Had the mobo and didn't want to start over on a new platform lol. This board was expensive and didn't want to throw it on the shelf.
Please keep feedback polite and constructive.
Does the Corsair aio work as well as I’ve heard? I’ve been thinking about getting one.
Yeah its a good cooler, I had an 8 core 7820X at 5 GHz all core and it kept it cooled nicely after I delidded it. Its doing a great job on the 14 core 10940X at 4.8 all core.
