Description

First and foremost I want to point out that I'm a true AMD fan, I bleed red! This build was not made from ground up, but rather upgraded trough time, I would recommend this build to every AMD fan who is tight on the budget (minus the one RX480) as the performance is just amazing! You will dominate 1080p games in the future and as well run all most current AAA titles maxed out on 1440p!

Note* - the Firestrike score will be even better when we hit Zen (or RyZen) in q1 2017 :) so far the graphics score is decent :)

so lets start by defining part by part:

CPU - AMD fx8370E - the original idea for CPU upgrade from the old phenom 1055T was the fx8370 cpu, but the E variant came with a free AMD SSD R3 240 GB in the bundle so it was an offer that was hard to pass up! I have to say that CPU works very well, it has been stable at 3,9 GHZ overclock and its not bottle-necking at all in games and other tasks! I can say it has exceeded my expectations by far, and it will be more then sufficient until Zen hits the shelf's!

Asrock 990fx Fatal1ty Killer - not much is needed to be said about this one, its a very well made am+ MBO!

G.Skill Sniper 16Gb 1866mhz - didn't want to overdo it by going full 32 GB, since an upgrade to ZEN and DDR4 is on the horizon! :)

Powercolor AMD RX480 RED Devil 8GB - there are not enough words that can describe how amazing this card really is! Its super silent, few hours of Witcher 3 ALL MAXED OUT gets her to barely 70c, performance is amazing @1330 mhz and it can overclock all the way to 1400 mhz so the card rocks! I found a good deal on them, and slapped the second one in for extra horsepower! They work great! a link to the video on how the single RX480 handles a witcher 3 all maxed out @1440p on my rig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIftVdoE7og&t=318s

Storage: Samsung 750 Evo 120GB is a system disk, AMD R3 240Gb is a disk for games, and 1TB of WD Blue is a great, standard storage disk!

PSU unit is a few years old CoolerMaster GX750 bronze+. it handles everything like a boss! :)

Cooling: CPU Cooler is the CORSAIR H100i v2, and it is an amazing CPU cooler, its always set in quiet mode and it is super silent! CPU temps while idle are around 23c and while gaming around 32c, unite temperature varies between 40-50 c depending on gaming. Other 2 case fans are super silent Scythe GlideStream 140mm intake, and Antec TrueQuiet 120mm for outtake!

Case:DEEPCOOL Dukase v2 ..the case itself is a best buy for 50$, but it has some flaws, first off is the front intake metal grill is disturbing the air intake to much, and makes additional noise so i had to drill it out, front USB 3,0 cable is an ugly blue one that connects to the mobo so I had to ditch it for aesthetics! If you can live with those 2 things then this case is a top buy! It looks good and feels good, and the price is ridiculous!

Monitor, peripherals: im using a LG lf32650v TV as a monitor - super happy Logitech G110 and Sharkoon Fireglider black as a keyboard - mice - super satisfied with both!

Future upgrades: future upgrades involve a AM4 MBO with ZEN cpu and DDR4 of course.. maybe a new case and an upgrade to mechanical keyboard and better gaming mouse..

I, uhh, am pretty sure that's what people normally bleed...Yes, I do get the joke, and I really find the joke funny.

Any who, I really like this build, great job! Not enough red in the build though, needs more.

  • 1 point

hahaha, true that :D we all bleed red (even thou some say they bled green) btw, its the flash of the camera that destroys the red, so you cant clearly see, corsair logo lights red, antec fan and a led light on the side lights up the devils logos on the side.. I'll try to add more photos, but they are low Q in the dark :/

anyways thank You for the comment! :D

Another huge AMD fan here. Nice work. Was wondering how the 480's would do in crossfire. They are definitely what I has suspected.

Crossfire 480s are super underrated, like its amazing. Mine are refrence cooled and never go above 73 with an OC!

  • 1 point

yes they are, but they deliver such an amazing performance! :) also nice temps on reference models :)

  • 1 point

Yup, refeence cards by amd aren't that bad really. I dont go above 73-75 depending on outside temp.

I had a reference rx480 and aas very satisfies with it! :) had some nice oc hedroom as well..menaged to get her at 1300 mhz stable :)

They do well, and Powercolor RX480 is just brilliant! I've posted a link for the video that shows how the Witcher 3 is maxed out using just a single RX480 @1330mhz.. Hairworks and all :D

So from someone who had a bit of a spat with AMD drivers and parts about 6 or so years ago, builds like this make me want to rethink my anti AMD standpoint lol.+1

  • 1 point

Well, when the AMD ZEN cpu rolls out I think AMD is worth rethinking! :) I have to say new Crimson 16.12.1 drivers are really really good! and RX480's are performing better and better with every new driver release, now beating the GTX1060's in almost every game! thanx for the compliment on the build :)

Reference model YES! the Devils NO.. I have 2 and I can bearly hear them lol.. they never go above 70c and they are one next to another.. also, read how the RX480 is gainig ground with new drivers vs. 1060: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/73945-gtx-1060-vs-rx-480-updated-review-23.html

and here is a quote from the concluson if you are to lasy to read everything: "So which one of these would I buy? That will likely boil down to whatever is on sale at a given time but I’ll step right into and say the RX 480 8GB. Not only has AMD proven they can match NVIDIA’s much-vaunted driver rollouts but through a successive pattern of key updates have made their card a parallel contender in DX11 and a runaway hit in DX12. That’s hard to argue against."

well ,it triggered me so hard at the beginnig that I wanted to 3D print the new plate like that upside down, and when I was contacting Powercolor support they gave me the exect same response XD ..Devil likes to run things upside down..

Well I live in the Mediterranean, it gets awfully hot during the summer and honestly there hasnt been a temp issue so far! Corsair h100i v2 is amazing and is always running in quiet mode.. cpu temps on idle are around 22 degrees Celsius and when gaming for example Witcher 3, they go to 35 degrees max!

Powercolor GPU's are also good, they make 0 noise while idle due to 0 rpm fans when gpu is below 60 c.. both cards are hitting 70- 72c max while playing Witcher 3 for few hours! fans rarely rev up to the noticeable level.. thing is i also have a decent airflow in the case.. front intake is schythe Glidestream 140mm that literary breaths fresh air constantly between the two cards! There is a picture where you can se how it looks, but keep in mind i had to drill out the front grill of the case to get the decent airflow! it was a metal mesh just like above the fan! so so far no issues with heat :)

  • 2 points

I know AMD doesn't always run hot lol. My 6300 which wasn't the greatest, ran at sub 10c when under load. (This was in my room which wasn't heated very well, or at all...)

I would be happy if AMD could exceed NVIDIA and INTEL there will be a price drop :-)

yea :) that would be great!

Please overclock the CPU more. Also your CPU isn't really running that cool, use AMD Overdrive to get the thermal margin.

  • 2 points

thermal margin is around 55c while idle.. around 45-50 c when gaming witcher 3.. also I menaged to get 4.3ghz stable but it made very little difference in real life other than few benchmark points more.. :)

Hey, I am building a PC with the same case. Would you please tell me how you put the fans on top of the case. I cannot seems to find the right screws to fix the fan.

  • 1 point

I used the screws that I got with my Corsair h100i v2! It was a bit of a hassle, as I first mounted the fans, than the radiator to them.. So you fix fans in to the position and than screw them from the top!

Its a great GPU :D

  • 1 point

How are your idle GPU temps so low? My devil dosen't go below 50.

  • 1 point

depends on your case airflow as well! I just checked and my devil is at 31c while idle, browsing or hanging at desktop.. while gaming it goes from 70-75c max!

  • 1 point

also I have manually set the temperatures in global wattman! my setting are: Temperature : max 90c , target 70c Fan speed (manual): min:1330 rpm, max: 2500rpm

For games like witcher 3 i have the following setup in wattman: Temperature : max 90c , target 70c Fan speed (manual): min:2000 rpm, max 3000 rpm

hope it helps!

I made a build for a friend who had ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB ROG STRIX and Intel Core i5-6600K I have a better score just with a single graphics card and less expensive than your construction You have a very good and nice build

  • 2 points

You may have a total score higher due to the CPU, however im 1000% sure this graphic score is higher.

  • 2 points

Yea, mine graphics score is 23433, Highest scoring i5 - 6600K with GTX1060 on Firestrike has 15360.. so you are right! But i had too good of a deal on 8370E, I just couldn't pass up.. 180$ + free AMD r3 SSD 240GB + 2 yrs warranty! and 8370E is doing more than fine, and will do until I switch to ZEN! At first I wanted to go with fx9590, but then I would also need to switch mobo and that would be a stupid investment since am4 mobo's are just around the corner!

  • 1 point

I was a 11000 without overclock and with a single graphics card

[comment deleted]

  • 1 point

Are you sure? better double check! mine graphics score is 23433, Highest scoring i5 - 6600K with GTX1060 on Firestrike has 15360..

Overall score is better due to the Physics score that is entirely CPU dependent! i5-6600K kills the 8370E! I got 8370E for 180$ + free SSD 240GB in comparison to the current i5 price that is 230+$.. so not sure that is less expensive.. not to talk about 95W TDP of my 8370E and so on--

Once ZEN hits the shelf's I'll redo the score.. it will jump from 10000 to around 29000.. also the graphics score will go from 23000 to 58000 approximately :)

  • 2 points

Lemme explain. The score is higher because intel single thread>AMD single thread, THOUGH Xfire 480s>>1060

  • 1 point

Even single RX480 is now on par or better than GTX1060 in most games, since the new 16.12.1 drivers! Let's not talk 8GB>6Gb, crossfire support etc. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiYQqNiqQKU

AMD Zen on paper say good thing but in real no physical proof every time AMD announces great news It is always disappointing afterwards things

  • 2 points

how about we wait and see before we class it as disappointing. Let the man have his moment, its a pretty sweet build.

  • 3 points

I've seen that with directx12 AMD will have better performance than NVIDIA Ryzen is still on paper maybe someday have all go to the dark side of the force

At the beginning I saw a benchmark 3DMARK I found a little weak for a crosfire I had the same score as with a single card I know I made a mistake it is the cpu that has a lot to influence for points I am sorry for the comment

  • 1 point

Its cool, as I said earlier the overall score is better coz of the big cpu performance difference (thats the physics score) but looking at firestrike results, the highes i5 + 1060 graphics score had 15260 while mine was 23433.. thats why I removed the pic with score and will post it back up once I get AM4 platform with ddr4 so we can compare.. ;)

Yea, at first It was the only thing that annoyed me, but now its ok, no seal of solomon on the back-plate was the real issue I had at first! :) but guys at Powercolor sent me the print template so I'm getting it done soon :D

[comment deleted]

well, its not a star of David acually, its the seal of solomon https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seal_of_Solomon

people got it confused with the star of David thus Powercolor had to remove it.. I found it actually a good design idea.. but they should've went with standard pentagram!
