This was a build some time coming for my parents who needed a new home office desktop. Requirements were for something that was aesthetically sleek and worked well for internet browsing and office productivity. Cost had to be limited to a maximum budget of £500 but this was offset by the fact I had usable old parts from my previous gaming rig (2011).

I hope this build goes to show that you don't need to spend much to make a nice office build, especially if you have some spare parts lying around. This PC can handle most games (including Overwatch, for example) despite not having a dedicated GPU.

Part Reviews

Probably the second best value-for-money CPU that Intel are selling right now after the G4560. Chose this because of the superior GPU chip that it possesses.

Fantastic motherboard for the price. Asus are my go-to company for quality mobos at reasonable prices. They have fantastic support and their software is excellent. Didn't need any crazy feature sets for this PC so the B250-PRO was perfect. It has some really nice red LED highlights which look beautiful inside the darkened tempered glass case of the Fractal Meshify C.

I actually managed to get the DDR4-3000 version for this price instead. At this price point, can't go wrong with Corsair.

Having used various different brands of SSD in the past, I always end up back with Samsung. Costs are always higher but the product quality is impeccable. I've had no issues with any of my previous Samsung SSDs and this should be perfect for the needs. Of note, the 840 wasn't much cheaper.

What a beautiful case. I've worked with several Fractal cases in the past and this builds on all of them. It is evolutionary and they have resolved one of my biggest gripes with the Define R5, a fan filter at the top of the case! The case looks smart and sleek without any of the extravagance of gaming cases and the tempered glass is of excellent quality and weight. It has just enough transparency to highlight the LEDs but is opaque enough to hide any unsightly wiring. As always, plenty of room to build in and for cable management. Very impressed with what Fractal have come up with here and think that the price point is perfect.

Agreed. Will put in a 1060 when price inflation returns to normal. That said, I have been playing Overwatch at 60FPS without issue.
