I started this build a few months ago upgrading my old AMD machine. I upgraded to a FX-8350 over my old FX-6300, and added a single GTX-970 over an R9-270X. Soon after I added the 2nd gtx-970 in SLI. The FX-8350 was decent enough and I managed to get a fairly nice 4.5 overclock out of it. After diving into this world and reading tons of articles, benchmarks, youtube vids, I realized I wish I would've went intel over the 8350. I knew my GTX-970 sli setup had so much more potential after seeing other builds. So thanks to some awesome microcenter deals, I rebuilt with an I7-4790K, Asus Maximus VII Hero board, and a new Samsung 850 evo for a fresh boot drive. Since this setup, I haven't looked back. The 4790K just smokes the 8350. While playing BF4 on the 8350 would get in the 100-120fps range and that was with a combination of settings low-ultra to get it up there, never consistent and would always dip in the 60-70 range. The 4790k... full ultra, (aa off) stays 130-150fps always. Never seen it dip below 120 once. On Heaven 4.0 (8xAA, ultra, extreme tess) my 8350 setup scored 2248, 4790K=2922. I wasn't a fan boy on either side, but the 4790K results has made me an Intel believer. Pricey, but the results were worth it.
