Description

Runs pretty good. Games at 4k with no issues. Still trying to find the sweet spot with speed and voltage. Right now 5ghz and 1.34 volts seems to be pretty good. The cpu is one day old and I delidded today. The results are much better than I expected, temperatures running Aida64 fpu test dropped about 15c.

Added a Samsung 960 Pro 512gb m.2 ssd.

Future plans include adding two more memory modules and possibly a new case.

Nice build, 5ghz and 70C? Isn't your room getting toasty after a few hours?

It will serve well for winter ;)

Thanks! That’s peak temperature not average. I guess I should have made that more clear.

Too bad that delidding still is necessary but great that there is such room for improvement.

I read somewhere that the motherboard and GPU combo is hard to get to fit together because of the audio port cover being too close to the top GPU slot. Did this fit together without any problems? It's my only concern with purchasing this motherboard, because I already own the Aorus 1080ti Xtreme.

I didn't have any issues with that. I have the gpu plugged into the top slot.

I'm assuming 70c load @5ghz is gaming, not stress testing, correct?

That’s about the highest temperature I have seen doing everything but extreme testing. In Aida64 it runs about 67 but will go up to 75 peak for a few seconds then back down.

Can you run Intel Burn Test or Prime95 and list temps. I have an 8700k aswell, and as soon as I go over 1.3v, temps spike into the high 90s while stress testing. Using Kraken X62, so comparable to your H115. Under regular loads, like games or CPUZ benching, it won't spike over 75c on my end either.

After delidding the max temperature with the fpu test is 70c so it dropped almost 15c. That is much better than I was expecting.

Did you use paste or liquid metal when reapplying the heat spreader?

Liquid metal. Cool Laboratory Ultra

Thank you! The delid dropped the temperature by about 15c running the aida64 fpu test. A much bigger improvement than I was expecting!

That looks really nice, I'm likely going for the same CPU/Mobo combo.

How was the overclocking experience

Thanks! The overclocking went pretty well, the temps were a bit high but it is a lot better now after delidding the cpu.

How did you delid it? I mean which delid kit and what thermal interface did you use?

Forgive me if this has already been addressed or I'm not following the images correctly but I believe you have the wrong RAM listed?

Nice build anyway I can't wait to upgrade to a Coffee Lake +1

I just got the same RAM for my build (nearly identical to yours).

Does the Aorus RGB software control the RAM well?

Sort of, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t lol.

You think Noctua NH-D15 performs well like that with a delidded 8700k? I can't decide if I buy an AIO or not :(

Do you play games with your keyboard below your mouse like that? I can't imagine that's very comfortable.

Looks incredible, great job with the set up! What are your thoughts about the Gigabyte BIOS? I've heard a lot of people say that it sucks, but I love how the Z370 boards look. I think I could live with a slightly annoying BIOS...
