Description

I call it The Napolean Complex It is a micro ATX that doesn't care how small it is, it wants to dominate every game at Ultra 1440p (but I put it at 2x Antialiasing usually :P).

Im 16 y/o and It is my first gaming computer, I built it because I like to challenge myself to learn new things and I love electronics and video games. This build is also supposed to be future proof with maybe a few updates. (person in picture 4 is my Dad :P he helped me with a few things that needed more than 2 hands)

My only problems I have had are with BF4 not wanting to work properly with my GTX 970 when it is overclocked.

The QNIX QX2710 is a great monitor, especially for the price (I got it stable at 125hz but I left it at 120hz). The colors, sharpness, and matte screen look great.

BTW my load temps are from benchmarking

How in the heck do you get 23 degrees idle on your CPU? I have the same CPU and a big noctua NHD15 and my idle temps are from 31-35 degrees @ 3.9GHz OC.

I have watercooling (H100i) with a 4.0GHz OC'd to 4.5GHz that idles higher than this guy's CPU too. Pretty insane.

I took a picture of my cpu temps it was at 26 degrees idleing

That's still pretty awesome, I'm impressed. Have you run 3dmark on it?

yea my "performance" score is in the benchmark section of this page, i only have the steam demo

26 degrees Celsius is still an amazing temperature for a CPU OC'd to 4.5 ghz. I'm gonna blame my temp on my H440's well known "bad airflow".

Yesterday i measured 23 which seemed low, and i just checked now and it was constantly 26 degrees so i will change that to 26 which seems more correct :P

Good choice of monitor. I'm so cranky I can't fit a 27" on my desk. I haven't heard of Xigmatek before, did that case and CPU cooler work well for you? Some things I would personally change is that I would get a MX100 SSD instead of the PNY, a 550W PSU (850W is fine if you plan to SLI or OC later on) and that's about it. I like it.

+1

Thank you for the comment :), the monitor is beatiful and barely has any backlight bleed, the case and cpu cooler are great, i forgot what the temps were but i will post it when i get home. I almost didnt buy an SSD but my friend tempted me and when i saw it for $90 and a $20 rebate i couldn't pass it up, but i almost bought the samsung 840 evo. And i do plan to SLI next year but the fit looks tight and idk if it fits lol.

Doing SLI with a GTX 970 already gets me excited. I plan to do it later with an EVGA FTW edition :)

My uncle did SLI with evga 980 ftw. He doesn't build for use, just for fun. So I get to use it sometimes.

Just a little side note, that i5 doesn't support 1866Mhz memory so you might need to tune down the speed in the BIOS.

Otherwise, nice build :D

Cheers

It started at 1333mhz but i actually overclocked the ram to 2133mhz no problem, but i didnt feel like going any higher. Everything runs nice and smooth :)

I really like this build, really cool case! Am I reading this correctly that you've overclocked a 3.5GHz processor to 4.5GHz stable with air cooling? What kind of temp readouts do you get while benchmarking/playing games?

Yea the xigmatech cooler is great! I had it at 4.7ghz for a day but i didnt want to leave it that high, when i get home (or probably tomorrow) i will post some benchmarks and temps :)

great build! +1 how's that cooler working for ya? how quiet is it?

  • 1 point

I cant really tell how quiet it is (im pretty sure my MOBO doesn't change fan speeds) but in my opinion it isn't loud, and it works great :). But according to my sister my computer idleing sounds like a mini vacuum cleaner lol

lol mine is kinda loud (i have a cooler master tx3 currently on a overclocked fx 8320 @ 4.2) trying to figure out which one i want and that one looks great!

Yea the coating on it is very interesting and an awesome powdery looking matte grey/black and i can actually touch it without burning myself (unlike the heatpipes on my GPU lol)

Also if anyone know if my motherboard can fit another GTX 970 STRIX I would greatly appreciate it :)

Yes, it has 2 pci-e 3.0 x16

  • 1 point

Well it actually has x8 and a x16 and comes with an SLI bridge, but the STRIX card is a dual slot and looks like anither one wouldnt fit

  • 1 point

-Taken from specs on superbiiz

Slots: 2x PCI-Express 3.0 x16 Slots (one runs at x8) Multi-Graphics: Supports 2-Way AMD CrossFireX and 2-Way NVIDIA SLI Technology

So their are 2 x16 slots its just one runs at x8

Nice build, case looks awesome. Not sure it another 970 would fit on the board but you could move the one you have to the other slot and try to measure that way. Also, I've researched a ton of builds and lots of people warn about setting a mobo on top of the electrostactic bag it comes in. I guess they are designed to keep the static out of the inside of the bag but it can still build up on the outside.

Really nice build. I also have this case. Check it out http://pcpartpicker.com/b/7kQV3C

What about the spectre pro 200mm? Did it fit where the stock 200mm was? I hate the stock fan on mine but don't know if spectre pro will fit in the front?

Thanks

It seems that everyone is finally taking an interest in the Z97MX G5! It's an amazing board for the price, and will not let you down. Can vouch for this, as it's the best board I've had in all the boards I've dealt with over the years.

Regarding the GTX 970, you should be able to fit another GTX 970 Strix, as it's a true dual-slot card that does not infringe on the third slot's territory. The next PCIe x16 slot on the board below the x1 is 3.0 x8, which is also nice. However, as with all mATX boards, you won't get ideal spacing, especially since the Strix cards are dual-fan, open-cooler type. You could try using the other x16 slot, but that one runs on PCIe 2.0 x4 from the PCH. This isn't the fault of the board, just that mATX boards only have 5 slots worth of space to play with.

If you kick up the fans a notch on both the cards, you should have zero issues with temperatures. The Strix is really quiet to begin with, and a bit more RPM on those fans won't hurt.

Shouldn't the GTX 970 be plenty fast for 1440p? You could try 970 SLI or maybe wait for the next dual-GPU flagship from AMD or Nvidia. Nice build, by the way.

Thank you for the info! yes for now the 970 is awesome im getting 60+ fps in most games at pretty much ultra. But im guessing next year games like star citizen wont run at 60fps :)

Hey I've got the same graphics card and build pretty much but I cant even play skyrim on the lowest settings before the game just comes to a grinding halt. I know it is because of the graphics card. How did you set yours up with your monitor? I feel Im just missing some driver or something simple but it's frustrating because I cant find any info on it. I have NO mods downloaded on skyrim, I literally cant even run the game man.
